Recently Team 1322 The G.R.A.Y.T. (Genesee Robotic Area
Youth Team) Leviathons were asked by Kettering University to host Team 1946 from
Israel for a day of fun in the sun at Spicer’s Orchard. The Leviathons who are
one of the committee teams that put on both the Kettering Kickoff in September and a
Kettering District Robotic Competition in March graciously accepted. The Israeli
team had brought over 7 students and 2 mentors to attend the Kettering Kickoff
on September 18th 2010. While in the U.S. for 10 days they ate pizza, went
to Wal-Mart, Best Buy, took some classes at Kettering University and spent one
day in Chicago. They said that they had the most fun with the Leviathons
exploring the corn maze, drinking cider, eating cider doughnuts and taking a
ride on a dune buggy owned by a team mentor. They informed us that they would not be
allowed to build and drive in a dune buggy back home. Talking to the Israeli
team we found that they have received just as much miss information about us as
we of them. They were told that Americans were mean and rude but they said every
body has been so nice. They are Arab and are living in a small village in Israel
with Jewish neighbors and they do not fight like we hear on the news. It is
peaceful with groves of olive trees with equipment like we have in our apple
orchards to harvest them.
